In such a moment of global crisis, the industrial sites, those spaces that once had a great importance in the dynamics of urban centres but then –as a result of societies changing- were not used any longer for the purpose for which they had been built, can turn into a new resource for the cities in which they are to be found. The recovery of those abandoned industrial sites requires a combined design approach, that should be up with the times and take every single peculiarity into account in order to give those buildings a new life and turn them into “active spaces” in constant osmosis with the surrounding environment .A prime example of such an approach is the proposed rehabilitation of the former tobacco factory in Battipaglia (SA, South of Italy) through architectural choices and technological solutions guaranteeing functional re-uses, that are also functioning over the time. New spaces where the interventions on the shell and the technological and plant solutions adopted meet design responsibility, sustainability, innovation and respect for architecture in its double value, both historical-technical and historical-cultural. Once more, the main characteristic of industrial buildings is evident: their capacity to adapt to structural and plant innovations.
In un momento di crisi globale, i “luoghi dell’industria”, che un tempo avevano una grande rilevanza all’interno delle dinamiche dei centri urbani e che poi in seguito al cambiamento della società non sono stati più in grado di assolvere alla funzione per cui erano stati realizzati, possono diventare una nuova risorsa per le città che li ospitano. Il recupero di queste aree industriali dismesse, richiede un approccio progettuale integrato, al passo con i tempi, che tenga conto delle singole peculiarità e che sia in grado di dare una nuova vita a questi edifici trasformandoli in “spazi attivi” in continua osmosi con l’ambiente circostante. Un caso emblematico è la proposta di recupero dell’ex Tabacchificio ATI di Battipaglia (SA) mediante scelte architettoniche e soluzione tecnologiche in grado di garantire ri-usi funzionali e funzionanti nel tempo. Nuovi spazi dove gli interventi sull’involucro, le soluzioni tecnologiche ed impiantistiche adottate incontrano la responsabilità progettuale, la sostenibilità, l’innovazione e il rispetto per l’architettura nella sua doppia valenza storica-tecnica e storico-culturale. Si evidenzia ancora una volta una caratteristica degli edifici industriali: la capacità di adeguarsi alle innovazioni strutturali ed impiantistiche.
