‘Doric’ forms of future tense can be found in Attic literature. Scholars agree that metric convenience is the main reason why they are employed in poetry, but still no work explains why they are used in prose too. This paper argues that ‘Doric’ forms of future have a more complex identity than other future forms used in Attic dialect: they occur with a strong modal connotation. The analysis demonstrates that in most cases ‘Doric’ forms exhibit epistemic nuances.

Abstract
‘Doric’ forms of future tense can be found in Attic literature. Scholars agree that metric convenience is the main reason why they are employed in poetry, but still no work explains why they are used in prose too. This paper argues that ‘Doric’ forms of future have a more complex identity than other future forms used in Attic dialect: they occur with a strong modal connotation. The analysis demonstrates that in most cases ‘Doric’ forms exhibit epistemic nuances.File in questo prodotto:
