The paper reports a study regarding the comparison of two different architectures for the 1 kV AC power supply of railway signaling, taking into account different configurations of the neutral cable. TT (earthed neutral) and IT (isolated neutral) systems have been considered and a fault analysis has been carried out by means of MATLAB/Simulink software. The goal of this paper is to analyze the benefits of the two configurations according to the continuity of the service and the proper protections devices operation.A section of a real Italian railway structure has been simulated in Simulink environment, developing a detailed model of the two analyzed systems of railway signaling, considering the prescriptions dictated by the Regulations and Technical Specifications of the Italian State Railways.
