This article presents the model of literary and intercultural communicative competence, which is based both on the hermeneutic approach for literary education and on the practice of the relational abilities defining intercultural communication. Furthermore, this article explores some of the results of a research whose aim is to investigate students’ motivation for studying literature in the Italian secondary school. The study involves 278 students of five schools in northeast Italy, a qualitative method design is implemented, it is a case study and data are collected through questionnaires. Results reveal that students would like to participate in more interpretative and interactive activities, according to the theoretical principles of the abovementioned model.

En el artículo se presenta un modelo de competencia comunicativa, literaria e intercultural fundado sobre el enfoque hermenéutico para la educación literaria y el ejercicio de las habilidades relacionales de la comunicación intercultural. A continuación, se muestra una parte de los resultados obtenidos de una investigación cuyo propósito es explorar la motivación en el estudio de la literatura en la escuela secundaria superior italiana. La encuesta involucra a 278 estudiantes de cinco escuelas en el noroeste de Italia, el diseño se configura a partir del paradigma cualitativo, es un estudio de caso y los datos se recogen a través de cuestionarios. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes sugieren introducir más actividades interpretativas e interactivas, a confirmación de los principios teóricos del modelo.
