COVID-19has led to the fall of the “tyranny”of presence and the antinomy “in presence/at distance”. On the horizon, quoting Bauman, we can glimpse a personalized “liquid”learning environment, without clear boundaries between the physical and the digital. The liquidity makes it possible to increase sociability and interaction by expanding it to a potentially infinite audience and increasing the processes of co-constructionof knowledge. An example is that of the “extended classroom”of the PoliMiMETIDcenter, a classroom with extended, unstable and transparent digital boundaries supported by AI. The new environments have in the digital world a “natural and infinite zone of proximal development”and could become the beating heart of a fourth DL that is only now concretely appearing as possible and near future.
