Many years earlier, Pereira seems to have understood some of the themes that will be at the center of Descartes’ reflection. Starting from the distinction between brutosand man, he identified for the first time the need to recognize the relationship between egoand knowledge, the fundamental element to reach the truth. The formulation of subjectivity as a separable, autonomous and eternal mens, finds its first formulation in the history of philosophy with the work of the Spanish doctor.
