Following 1861, the Cosenza High School became a point of reference in the province for an entire generation of young people. The priority task of this institution, which boasted a solid and interesting tradition, was to promote teaching of classical studies and literature but, being able to count on the value of personalities of certain importance among teachers such as the presbyter Vincenzo Padula, founder of “Il Bruzio, Political-Literary Newspaper”, and Vincenzo Dorsa, a well-known scholar of Arbereshe origin, requests for modernization and social and cultural growth came out of the classrooms and involved the entire social context. In the light of the most accredited methodological achievements from the research sector, the contribution takes into consideration some documents that are part of the “Heritage” of the Library of the Bernardino Telesio Classical High School and the 115 issues of “Il Bruzio, Political-Literary Newspaper”, kept at the Civic Library of Cosenza, which offer many ideas for investigating the social and cultural impact of the institution on the territory.

Abstract
Following 1861, the Cosenza High School became a point of reference in the province for an entire generation of young people. The priority task of this institution, which boasted a solid and interesting tradition, was to promote teaching of classical studies and literature but, being able to count on the value of personalities of certain importance among teachers such as the presbyter Vincenzo Padula, founder of “Il Bruzio, Political-Literary Newspaper”, and Vincenzo Dorsa, a well-known scholar of Arbereshe origin, requests for modernization and social and cultural growth came out of the classrooms and involved the entire social context. In the light of the most accredited methodological achievements from the research sector, the contribution takes into consideration some documents that are part of the “Heritage” of the Library of the Bernardino Telesio Classical High School and the 115 issues of “Il Bruzio, Political-Literary Newspaper”, kept at the Civic Library of Cosenza, which offer many ideas for investigating the social and cultural impact of the institution on the territory.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
