This paper starts from the analysis of the change conditions of the family in today’s society: a family characterized by precariousness and uncertainty. The difficulties increase in the cases of transnational families, or those whose members live in different national contexts. Today, the Mediterranean area, particularly Italy, mainly welcomes migrant women, who work in the tertiary sector of personal services and feed the global care chain. The separation and the subsequent reunion between transnational mothers and children is painful and difficult. The Author therefore proposes several hypothesis of support for distance parenthood, in order to better live the migratory project.

Abstract

This paper starts from the analysis of the change conditions of the family in today’s society: a family characterized by precariousness and uncertainty. The difficulties increase in the cases of transnational families, or those whose members live in different national contexts. Today, the Mediterranean area, particularly Italy, mainly welcomes migrant women, who work in the tertiary sector of personal services and feed the global care chain. The separation and the subsequent reunion between transnational mothers and children is painful and difficult. The Author therefore proposes several hypothesis of support for distance parenthood, in order to better live the migratory project.
