The article introduces a case study (Ateneo di Padova) over data practicesin teaching and learning. The study is based on a survey and focuseson data practices relating to evaluating quality in teaching, learningand assessment. The survey was distributed to all the university teachingstaff: 370 responses were collected. Data were exploratively analysedbased on descriptive statistics and dimensional reduction (principalcomponent analysis). The results indicate the prevalence of institutionallyconsolidated practices relative to Quality teaching evaluation resultedto be one of the most prevalent and institutionally consolidatedpractices, whilst emerging practices (namely data driven) connected todecision-making and teaching and learning were adopted in isolationand with fragmentation. The results are discussed on the light of the potentialstrategies at the institutional level, particularly regarding facultydevelopment, within an integrated system that can be deemed technologicallyadvanced and effective and ethically sustainable in data usage.
