Emil Cioran’s philosophy of history is undoubtedly one of the most problematic nodes of his entire thought. Inextricably linked to the drama of the fall into time and the idea of a negative providence, history represents a constant obsession for Cioran involving numerous dimensions, including the utopian, the apocalyptic, the aesthetic, the theological, and not at least the political. The aim of this paper is to reconstruct, in its fundamental lines, the gestation of this dispositive of illusion and disenchantment, horror and regret, transfiguration and disfiguration – developed above all in his Romanian works – in which the dialectics between life and death and the link between memory and history assume a central operative function.

Abstract
Emil Cioran’s philosophy of history is undoubtedly one of the most problematic nodes of his entire thought. Inextricably linked to the drama of the fall into time and the idea of a negative providence, history represents a constant obsession for Cioran involving numerous dimensions, including the utopian, the apocalyptic, the aesthetic, the theological, and not at least the political. The aim of this paper is to reconstruct, in its fundamental lines, the gestation of this dispositive of illusion and disenchantment, horror and regret, transfiguration and disfiguration – developed above all in his Romanian works – in which the dialectics between life and death and the link between memory and history assume a central operative function.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
