The decline of the fertility rate is a global phenomenon and Spain represents one of the most dramatic examples. As a matter of fact, its curve slopes downward, falling below the international average. In response to this alarming trend Spanish public administrations have devised a set of pioneering policies to foster demographic growth. The article, after briefly illustrating the causes of this phenomenon in Spain, will therefore identify, classify and comment on the main policies adopted by the central and regional government to bolster growth. In conclusion, drawing on the material presented, it will provide an analysis on the rationale on which the administrations based their policies.
